Nudity is the cause of rape. Really?

Is nudity the cause of rape?

After the publication of this issue of Shukrabar with the cover image of Laxmi Acharya, some women rights activists called it inappropriate and demanded for the punishment to the lady on the cover image and the publisher of Shukrabar. This led to the debate on social media, ‘Is nudity the cause of rape?’.

I strongly disagree with the opinion declaring nudity as the cause of rape.

I get an erection when I see a nude lady, it’s a biological matter. That’s totally natural. But, it doesn’t mean that I should rape the lady for I got an erection seeing her.

Men/women may get an erection not only by seeing each other nude. Even a touch, intentional or unintentional, can cause an erection. Sometimes one gets an erection just by seeing another person of opposite or same gender.
And, that’s the very natural thing to happen. When you have sexual drive, just imagination of another gender can cause an erection. Now, do you get the license to rape just because you got sexually drive?

If we agree nudity is the cause of rape, we are agreeing that existence of sexual drive in the human being is the reason for rape. Isn’t it?

Regarding sex, the basic concept always applies i.e. no matter what sex should always be with the mutual agreement only.
The basis of sex is the mutual agreement and the objective of sex should always be mutual satisfaction.

Sexual assault isn’t sex, its rape and its crime.

Does this cover photo show nudity?

I’m not sure how our law defines nudity. But for me, this photo doesn’t show nudity. I think the widely accepted concept of nudity is showing private parts which include breast and genitals in case of female and genitals in case of males. This photo is taken in such a way that breast and genitals are hidden. So, it passes my personal sensor over nudity.
